I have a feeling my career’s just peaked. My deepest thanks to the Academy. I’m afraid I have to warn you that I’m experiencing stirrings somewhere in the upper abdominals, which are threatening to form themselves into dance moves. Joyous as they may be for me, it would be extremely problematic if they make it to my legs before I get offstage, so I’m going to do my best to be brief with my gratitude first for being on this extraordinary list of fellow nominees, something quite formidable and possibly the greatest honor. All the crew and my fellow cast members, those who are not here and those who are: Geoffrey, Helena, and Guy, who’s virtuosity made it very very difficult for me to be as bad as I was planning to be. And, David Seidler, who’s own struggles have given so many people the benefit of his beautiful voice, and Tom Hooper for the immense courage and clear-sightedness with which he interpreted that. The men who financed this to the screen, Garath, Emile, Iain, Savile, and of course Harvey who first took me on twenty years ago when I was a mere child sensation. All the people who have been rooting for me back home. Also Jessica Kolstad, my friend. Paul Aaron Merris and Chris Andrews for baring with me through the less fortunate moments as well as the good ones. And my very fortunate friendship with Tom Ford to whom I owe a very big piece of this. And to the Anglo-Italian-American-Canadian access which makes up my family. And Livia for putting up with my fleeting delusions of royalty and who I hold responsibly for this and for really everything that’s good that’s happened since I met her. Now if you’ll all excuse me, I have some impulses I have to tend to backstage. Thank you very much.
Holy crap. Yes, 9 months of waiting (although back then I didn’t know it would be such a big deal). One month of checking out the theaters around me. I FINALLY SAW THE KING’S SPEECH. Oh my Colin freaking Firth. You are the best of the best. Geoffrey Rush. Sorry I only knew from Captain Barbossa but thank you for being in this movie you were splendid! Helena Bonham Carter. I only know you playing eccentric roles I did not know how adorable you were.
AND there were Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Benett from Pride and Prejudice) and David Bamber (Mr. Collins from P&P) — wow there was a festivity going on in my head. P&P REUNION BABY.
Might contain spoilers, so I might as well hide the rest ;)
I went to see Karate Kid today. Actually we just went to see a movie, then we saw Karate Kid, and we decided to watch it.
Someone told me that it was not really a “Karate” Kid, and more like a “Kung Fu” Kid, and at first I thought maybe they just didn’t care. But then in the movie they explicitly said it was Kung Fu, and I was wondering why they named it “Karate Kid”. One of my roommates told me it’s because it was a remake of an original “Karate Kid” and I thought it made sense.
Anyhow, the movie was pretty good! Although I’m Asian, I have never been to mainland China, so I don’t know if it was stereotyped or what Chinese people would think, but I personally loved the movie.
Jaden Smith was adorable!! His acting was not something like Haley Joel Osment or Dakota Fanning, but he did a good job. And the way Dre (Jaden Smith’s role) was trying really hard… Everyone was cheering for him in the end, inside and outside the movie, from children to adults. A small girl sitting next to me was cheering for him saying “Go Xiao-Dre!”. Every time he was in danger, she was saying “Oh my god!!” lol. And everyone sends him applause when he did something amazing (this is why I love watching movies in the States).
Also, Jackie Chan - he is my favorite actor, but I have only seen him doing funny roles and I never realized he was such a good actor. When talking of Jackie Chan, people talk about his martial arts, but he was more than that. He really can act. This movie was probably nothing without Jackie Chan.
All the Kung Fu was cool too. All the small kids doing Kung Fu… The action was amazing. Sometimes a bit painful to see a little kid beating each other, but I am glad they used kids, because they were all innocent and adorable.
TWO WEEKS NOTICE. This is the very first Hugh Grant movie I saw and I immediately fell in love with Hugh! Also Sandra has been my favorite actress since then (I might have watched Speed before this, but she is way more adorable in this movie).
Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider are my favorite artists :) (Check out their other covers!) And this girl sure has a nice voice!!
I just posted this because the song is frickin’ stuck in my headdddd. The HSM scene with this song pushed me to the verge of tears because of the reactions from the audience… I know HSM is cheesy but it’s funnnn.
Stan: Give me my ball back bitch. Mike O’ Donnell: You know Stan I feel sorry for you. Stan: You don’t know me. Mike O’ Donnell: Oh, but I do all too well. You’re the man. Captain of the basketball team, dates pretty girls, high school is your kingdom. But people, Stan is a bully. Why? It’d be way to easy to say Stan preys on the weak simply because he’s a dick. No… no… Stan here is much more complex than that. See according to leading psychiatrists Stan is a bully for one of three reasons… One… underneath all that male bravado there’s a insecure little girl just banging on the closet door trying to get out. Two… like a caveman Stan’s brain is… underdeveloped, therefore Stan is unable to use self control so he has to act aggressively. Three… Stan has a small wiener. Don’t hurt yourself big boy.
I watched this movie because it looked like a good chick flick and it featured Jennifer Aniston, my favorite actress.
It was totally different from what I expected. In a good way :) I didn’t think I would cry. I didn’t think I would love this movie this much! (although I do not think this will be one of those movies I watch over and over again)
Yes it was a romantic movie, but it was more than that. It was how a person would face a loss of his beloved one. And it was not only about the main character, Burke Ryan - it was also about his father-in-low and one of his audience, Walter. It was very touching.
Jennifer Aniston was so pretty. Kinda hard to believe she’s already over 40. I loved her fashion in this movie too!
Aaron Eckhart. He is cute, he can act. But somehow I couldn’t get rid of his image in The Dark Knight as Harvey Dent…. Because he was such a strong figure in that movie. For those who watched The Dark Knight, you would know :/
Overall, I loved the movie!
Btw, I think they should have chosen different title for the movie and also the ad is kinda misleading… lol
